“September 5”

My Rating: 3.57/4 (aka Worth your time)

One line summary: The terrorist attack of the Munich Olympics told through the lens of the ABC sports crew.

The Deets: I didn’t like this movie as much as I expected. I appreciated the retelling of a vital historical moment through the view of the ABC team and what happened behind the scenes. It was also commendable that they were able to condense the horrific 22-hour saga into roughly 90 minutes. But there was something missing; perhaps it was the lack of depth, or the fact that the center of the story is really the Israeli hostages who were murdered partially due to the ineptitude of the local German police – this was a different story, of proud journalists grappling with the moment and doing their best to share the story with the world. And in that, they succeeded.

Perfect for: If you’re in the mood for a 1970s period piece about a newsroom, and especially if you’re not familiar with the Munich Olympics massacre. You should also see Spielberg’s “Munich” for the aftermath.

Where to watch: As of this writing, it’s included with Amazon Prime, so that’s a check in the plus column.

Food pairing: Tough call. Lean in with your beverage of choice and have a snack afterwards.
