My Rating: 3.87/4 (aka Great watch)
One line summary: A black box analyst seeks the truth after a plane crash.
The Deets: I gotta thank ChatGPT for this suggestion because I had never heard of this movie despite the many recognizable actors. I read a review somewhere that said this is the kind of great thriller that Hollywood doesn’t make anymore and that’s spot on. This is a movie that loves its story and seems to take pride in making the audience guess what’s going to happen and who the real villain is (I’m obviously not going to tell you). But it’s both modern (note uncut opening shot backing through the aisle of the plane) and a total throwback to the Hitchcockian tension (note the hints of the “Psycho” soundtrack while the protagonist Mathieu is driving). A super fun film.
Perfect for: Anyone who loves a good thriller and if a plane crash movie won’t deter you from flying. You need a little bit of patience.
Where to watch: You can rent it on streaming, I got it on Amazon Prime for $3.59. Totally worth it.
Food pairing: Doesn’t strike me as a food movie, but because there are some madeleines served toward the end, let’s go with that. Glass of wine optional.
