“A House of Dynamite”

My Rating: 2.87/4 (aka Not really worth it)

One line summary: The American response to an inbound nuclear missile.

The Deets: Sometimes movies disappoint you, and this is one of those times. And I can’t just have a blog to share what I think you should watch, but also perhaps what you should avoid; I’m not saying don’t watch this movie, but I am saying be forewarned that it did not live up to my expectations. Of course, when you’re Kathryn Bigelow – director of the excellent “Zero Dark Thirty” and the all-time classic original “Point Break” – the expectations are high, they should be high. So here we go: I guessed the ending halfway through, and that’s usually not a good sign. In this case, Bigelow has rolled out a pretty serious and recognizable cast (like all B+ folks) and she plays with the storytelling timeline, good enough tension… but it kinda ends there. Let’s just say that if our response to a nuclear missile threat is on par with what transpires here, we are in trouble.

Perfect for: If you enjoy political thrillers and you have 90 minutes to burn knowing that you’ll be entertained but not enthralled.

Where to watch: Good news is that it’s Netflix, so you’re not paying extra.

Food pairing: Non-alcoholic beer and pretzels. And then go for dinner.
