My Rating: 3.64/4 (aka A worthwhile watch)
One line summary: An unemployed man is offered a mysterious role as a transcriber.
The Deets: This was not the best movie ever, but I definitely enjoyed it, especially the fact that it didn’t rely on any modernized technology; in fact, the protagonist uses a typewriter to transcribe audio that he plays on old cassette tapes – there was something pleasing about this, but I realize it won’t be for everyone. I’m also a big fan of the lead actor here, Francois Cluzet, who is a French favorite and stars in one of my all-time favorites, “Tell No One” (and if you haven’t seen that one, GET ON IT). Cluzet does his job very well even if the role is slightly limited and the puzzle pieces (both literal and metaphorical never quite come together all the way). At a tidy 90 minutes, you won’t regret it.
Perfect for: If you like those very French mystery thrillers where all the pieces may not come together and you might not really understand everything that happened but you’ll still enjoy yourself.
Where to watch: You can rent on Amazon Prime, and I think you’ll think it’s worth it.
Food pairing: Get a bowl or paper cone of fries and enjoy yourself.
