My Rating: 3.72/4 (aka Worth your time)
One line summary: The aftermath of a mistake during surgery.
The Deets: Elizabeth Banks is one of those actors who seems to be good in everything; not amazing, mind you, but very solid and watchable and her energy can carry a film. I really liked her in the recent Amazon Prime short series “The Other Sister” with Jessica Biel – I thought their chemistry was great, and Banks was believable and somehow relatable in that you care about her as the damaged older sister (she’s also very good in the underrated “The Next Three Days.”) And her surgeon character jn this New Zealand-based story is similar: she projects a confident yet vulnerable energy that makes you want to keep watching her, and because she also has this undercurrent of un-predictability, and that combination is somehow very satisfying. In some ways this is a bold role for her to play, not an easy one, as it has good depth and dimension to it, and I really enjoyed it. It’s not an amazing movie, but it’s definitely worth watching, and it will make you think about the morality of the choices each character makes. A smart film, one we don’t get very often.
Perfect for: If you already enjoy Elizabeth Banks on screen because she’s basically in every scene, or she should be, and if you like movies based around doctors.
Where to watch: Included with Amazon Prime!
Food pairing: For some reason I feel like a burrito or quesadilla is appropriate even though you’re not very hungry.
