My Rating: 3.89/4 (aka Great binge-able watch)
One line summary: Jonathan Pine goes undercover to help British intelligence take down an arms dealer.
The Deets: It’s hard to believe this was released ten years ago, and they’re only now getting around to season two. We watched it a decade ago, and the good news is that we couldn’t remember it well enough, so before we jump into the next season (based mostly in Medellin, Colombia), we re-watched the first – and the bar is very high. With a fabulous cast of beautiful blond Tom Hiddleston as Pine, the razor sharp Hugh Laurie as Dickie Roper, the always elevating Olivia Colman as the BI agent trying to take him down, and very tall Elizabeth Debicki (who you might recognize from “The Crown”), we are whisked away to stunning locations and inserted into the nefarious world of wealth and weapons. Hiddleston and Laurie are at their best, great chemistry, and we are kept just off balance enough to be surprised. Directed by Suzanne Bier, who has crafted many works including the excellent film “After the Wedding,” this is a series not to be missed.
Perfect for: If you love British spy stuff, especially those based on John Le Carre’s work. And if you love watching pretty people in beautiful places.
Where to watch: It’s all about Amazon Prime.
Food pairing: Lobster spaghetti. Might be tough to find, but a man can dream.
