“I’m Your Man”

My Rating: 3.88/4 (aka Definitely worth your time)

One line summary: A scientist agrees to live with a humanoid robot for three weeks.

The Deets: You’ve probably missed this film, as I did; remarkable that it was released in 2021, and it feels oh so perfectly of this (ongoing) AI moment. Just a brilliantly crafted German film by director Maria Schrader. In the hands of the wrong director or writer, this one goes sideways and doesn’t achieve the level of sophistication that succeeds here; the nearly flawless blend of humor and depth and philosophy. Maren Eggert in the lead role is excellent, as is Dan Stevens as robot “Tom,” finding that pitch perfect tone where you almost forget that he’s actually human… or is he? Drop in a supporting role by Sandra Huller and this is a must see for all the reasons.

Perfect for: If you love to delve into the philosophical questions about human vs “robot” and what it will mean for civilization, but in a totally warm, funny, and approachable way.

Where to watch: You can get it on Netflix or rent it on your favorite streaming service.

Food pairing: You will want a stack of pancakes (let’s be honest, I always do), but hard to eat with a movie, so let’s go with a warm blueberry muffin.
