My Rating: 3.82/4
One line summary: In 1840s England, two real-life women, Mary Anning (renowned paleontologist) and Charlotte Murchison (a geologist) embark on a fictionalized relationship.
The Deets: I didn’t know this film was loosely based on some version of truth – as Anning and Murchison did know each other. But the passion that develops between them would have been shunned (and has been criticized). It is the utterly incredible chemistry between the actresses (Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan) that lifts this film to its heights. Otherwise, it moves so very slowly, it’s amidst the gray ocean waves, inching towards its beautiful climax.
Perfect for: Anyone who loves to watch Kate Winslet in anything as much as I do, and also if you like period pieces.
Where to watch: You gotta rent it.
