My Rating: 3.96/4
One line summary: A stunning autobiographic snapshot of the warm, tragic, and beautiful teenage years of Fabietto.
The Deets: This is one of my favorites in recent years; writer and director Paolo Sorrentino goes to his hometown of Napoli and weaves a film that you must see. Set in the backdrop of the 1980s, with the great Maradona rumored to join the local team, Fabietto learns that he must find his life path. Inspired by his childhood dream of becoming a filmmaker, Sorrentino brings us into the world of his crazy/wonderful family, full of laughter, love, criticism, and tragedy. It is all nearly perfect, and you don’t want it to end.
Perfect for: If you already enjoy the films of Sorrentino, you love a good coming-of-age story, and especially if you love Italy.
Where to watch: Netflix. Yes. Go now.
