My Rating: 3.96/4 (aka Must See)
One line summary: A young drummer at the top music school encounters his new teacher.
The Deets: I saw this film on a plane and now I need to rewatch it because I’m sure the sound was way better than I experienced it. I also can’t believe I hadn’t seen it until now because I love the films of Damien Chazelle (“La La Land,” “First Man”). I will just say that the title is reflective of how you feel after watching it. This movie has electric energy, it’s brilliantly acted (Miles Teller and JK Simmons – who won the Oscar – are incredible), and despite the sometimes painful intensity, you can’t stop watching (nor should you because the ending is pitch perfect).
Perfect for: Anyone who’s into music, especially jazz, and especially the drums; and if you’re a JK Simmons fan, buckle up.
Where to watch: It’s on Amazon Prime, and wyou should catch the beat before it’s gone.
Food pairing: At least two NY slices, probably need to go plain.
