“Michael Clayton”

My Rating: 3.78/4 (aka Worth your time)

One line summary: A “fixer” at a high-powered Manhattan law firm gets in deep.

The Deets: I re-watched this one on a recent flight and I’m glad I did because it was better than I remembered it, and yet, it’s missing something, it’s trying to be more important and impactful than it is — but it’s still worth watching, if only for sharp dialogue and excellent Clooney performance at the center of it. The plot almost doesn’t matter, it’s much more about the cool Tony Gilroy script and the great cast around Clooney, especially the raving Tom Wilkinson and the always perfect affluent Manhattan guy, Sydney Pollack. The film is washed in a bluish-gray tint, and this is how you’re supposed to feel: a little fuzzy, amoral, and then, ultimately, left to watch George riding in a cab to nowhere.

Perfect for: Clooney fans like me; he seems to be in every frame of this film.

Where to watch: You gotta rent it, or catch it on your next Delta flight.

Food pairing: At least one French baguette (you’ll see why), and whatever you choose to put on it.
