My Rating: 3.99/4 (aka You MUST see)
One line summary: Lola has 20 minutes to find $100,000 to save her boyfriend, Manni.
The Deets: Yes, my rating is accurate. We had the pleasure of seeing the 25th anniversary version of this movie in the theater last week, and I can safely say this is one of my all-time favorites. Because one of the main qualities of a great movie’s greatness is whether its greatness holds up after many years. And what’s remarkable is how energizing and utterly modern this Tom Tykwer film is, even while watching the two main characters talk on corded telephones for much of the action. I won’t even tell you too much here other than it’s one of the most inventive and original pieces of film work I have experienced, and its themes of time and destiny are evergreen.
Perfect for: If you’re ready to be wonderfully shocked by 80 minutes of pure film energy and a kinetic soundtrack.
Where to watch: If you are lucky enough to have it playing in a theater near you, get there!
Food pairing: Don’t distract yourself with food; buckle up and grab a snack after.
