“Memento”

My Rating: 3.87/4 (aka Definitely worth it)

One line summary: A man tries to solve his wife’s murder while grappling with memory issues.

The Deets: Long before “Oppenheimer,” the visionary Christoper Nolan was playing with time and memory in this excellent and lesser-known independent film that you must see. In fact, I will admit that I forgot Nolan co-wrote and directed it until I looked it up today. Shameful. But we move on in life. From the very first shot and scene, Nolan thrusts us into the action and the literal running voiceover of lead Guy Pearce’s attempt to make sense of his memory-fractured world. Through a kaleidoscope of Polaroids interspersed with flashbacks, we try to make sense of his quest for the truth — much like the twisty “Inception” and “Tenet.” We also get treated to early Carrie-Ann Moss and Joe Pantoliano (who also co-starred in “The Matrix” one year earlier). It’s time for a rewatch.

Perfect for: Any existing Nolan fans, if you’re in the mood for a thriller, and especially if you want a movie where you need to work hard to fit the puzzle pieces together.

Where to watch: It’s streaming on Amazon Prime! Make it happen.

Food pairing: I think a soft twisted pretzel would be perfect, beer optional.
