My Rating: 3.88/4 (aka Do it)
One line summary: A team of dreamers attempt to enter the subconscious mind.
The Deets: I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed this one yet – one of my most rewatchable favorites! (though I may know it too well at this point). A supreme cast leads us into the dreaming mind of Cillian Murphy, who is the heir to a corporate throne. DiCaprio as Cobb, assembles a diverse team of talent, able to navigate the uncertainty that lies within, while Cobb tries to suppress the torment of his own life, punctuated by his wife (Marion Cottilard). As he uniquely does, Nolan keeps us riveted for nearly 2.5 hours, asking us to suspend belief and winding us down multiple levels until the twisty end – which some take issue with. Once you succumb to the dreamy world, you should just let it all go, ready to get flipped upside down, and not expect all the pieces to fit together perfectly. Because like our own dreams, their interpretation is subjective.
Perfect for: Any Nolan fan, if you like to watch DiCaprio do his thing (he’s at the center of all the action), and if you’re in the mood for a mind-bender.
Where to watch: Amazon Prime, for the bargain rental price of $3.79!
Food pairing: Feels like it needs to be something elegant, or some twisty noodles.
