“Conclave”

My Rating: 3.72/4 (aka Worth your time)

One line summary: A new pope must be chosen.

The Deets: This movie seemed to have a lot of buzz, some of it justified. While I will generally see anything with Ralph Fiennes (and Stanley Tucci for that matter), upon reflection, it didn’t really stick with me. There is great acting for sure, and a bit of an unexpected twist, but for some reason I wasn’t quite drawn to the archaic nature of the pope selection process and the relatively restrained reservation of decorum that is allowed among the many fathers. Isabella Rossellini shines, as always, and it’s definitely worth seeing, just temper your expectations based on the cast.

Perfect for: When you want to watch a beautifully acted and contained film with a tinge of a surprise.

Where to watch: As of this writing, it’s still in theaters, my favorite place to be.

Food pairing: If you have them, somehow fresh figs come to mind.
