My Rating: 3.92/4 (aka Must watch)
One line summary: The daring true story of a helicopter heist in Stockholm.
The Deets: I am breaking (back) into the glorious format of the cinematic 8-10 episode streaming series, this one on Netflix. You may have missed or skipped over this one because of the very literal title and the fact that it’s in Swedish, but I am here to tell you that it’s a must watch. Directed by the inventive Daniel Espinosa, a Chilean-Swedish ponytailed creator who has entertained us with the high-octane Denzel/Ryan Reynolds CIA film, “Safe House,” this work is right on point – tension high, camera tight, we follow these thieves into their lives and around corners, and we are rooting for them to succeed! Each episode feels like a mini movie, and it is, the tension high and the stakes even higher because you know it really happened. I also loved the overt nods to its predecessors, notably Michael Mann’s classic “Heat.” Netflix was also very smart as they released a companion mini documentary about the making of the heist episode, which Espinosa conceived and they filmed in real time to make it seem like a single shot. I am so excited writing this that I may watch it again!
Perfect for: If you like the style of “Safe House” and the “Bourne” movies – intense and constantly in motion. Also you need to be ok with subtitles (I know some of you aren’t, no judgement).
Where to watch: Only on Netflix, yo.
Food pairing: Tough one because you’re not going to want to get distracted, so go simple with a pizza or two. Binge worthy.
