“Karaoke”

My Rating: 3.72/4 (aka Definitely worth it)

One line summary: A new neighbor moves into the penthouse and disrupts a quiet life.

The Deets: This is a beautiful movie, small in its characters but huge in heart and wisdom. When the enigmatic and worldly agent moves in upstairs, an older couple is smitten – they compete for his attention and are also internally awakened to take bold steps in their lives. There is a strain of humor throughout, but there are also striking scenes of courage and honesty and deep love. The ending is perfectly orchestrated. The three leads are all fantastic, and if you’re a fan of Israeli shows and movies like I am, you will recognize them from “Shtisel” and “Foxtrot.” Just remember not to fear the microphone.

Perfect for: When you’re in the mood for a comedy / drama with some profound and honest life lessons, and especially with an Israeli twist.

Where to watch: Rent it on your favorite streaming service tonight!

Food pairing: Definitely something Israeli – I would go for a platter of hummus, tabbouleh, and falafel, side of warm pita (must be warm).
