My Rating: 3.82/4 (aka Great watch)
One line summary: A top chef hits London on a quest to earn his third Michelin star.
The Deets: I was sure I had seen this fun and electric movie before, but I couldn’t recall, so it became perfect for the plane. I know that Bradley Cooper’s name is boldly across the poster, but somehow it felt like he hadn’t hit movie star status yet (his peak for me is “A Star is Born” – we’ll see what his does next after his underwhelming but beautiful “Maestro”). I definitely love food movies and this one is up there – “Big Night” comes to mind as right up there in my top 5 (where the food needs to be prominent amidst the drama). Cooper dials it up just a little too much but it’s short-lived, so you don’t mind. You believe that he knows what he’s doing even though, well, he’s not a real chef. Just like with ER, director John Wells brings out the heart and the pace and he closes out without harping on the beautiful (yet literal) life lesson – you can’t do it all alone.
Perfect for: Anyone out there who loves foodie films, movies in a loud kitchen, and especially if you enjoy Bradley Cooper in every scene.
Where to watch: You can rent it on Amazon Prime streaming and it’s delicious move.
Food pairing: So many choices here – I might just go for some gourmet pizza.
