My Rating: 3.86/4
One line summary: A young boy and his uncle forge a new relationship.
The Deets: I am biased because I am a sucker for films shot in black & white, especially those in NYC (see “Manhattan”). But in the hands of the deft Mike Mills (his “20th Century Women” was also excellent), this seemingly simple but layered story about the complexities of family relationships – especially with kids – has major repercussions, and its pitch-perfect acting performances make it a surprising must watch.
Perfect for: Those who know and like the Mike Mills vibe, B&W flicks, and family drama without too much sap.
Where to watch: Rentable on Prime; you won’t be disappointed (hopefully, and if you have a heart).
