“Doubt”

My Rating: 3.74/4 (aka Worth it)

One line summary: The Pulitzer and Tony award-winning play about doubt seeded within a church’s school community.

The Deets: When you watch a play that’s been adapted for the cinema screen, you generally know what to expect – the action will be driven by the dialogue. That is no exception here, but the 1960s setting is the perfect backdrop for the costumes and context of this brilliantly written story. And then you throw in the cast: Viola Davis, Amy Adams, the late great character actor PSH (Philip Seymour Hoffman), and the GOAT, Meryl Streep – hard to think of another film where the lead actors are this strong and their scenes so crackling. So many moments of nuance and so much intense energy from a series of occurrences that at once seem subtle but crack open to reveal possible truths, laced with doubt.

Perfect for: When you’re in the mood to be mesmerized by character actors at their finest, and especially if you want a 1960s period piece.

Where to watch: It’s rentable on streaming. It’s totally worth the $3.59 on Prime.

Food pairing: Feels like a pizza, or something that won’t distract from the sharp script.
