My Rating: 3.78/4 (aka Definitely worth it)
One line summary: A young man in the future is faced with a challenge to become a leader, based on the classic novel.
The Deets: Even though I love the OG “Star Wars,” I typically don’t watch sci-fi movies, mostly because I (and my favorite film-watching companion) tend to prefer stories of the present. But this one was recommended, and I’m so glad we watched it. First off, the cast is stellar, especially Timothee Chalamet in the lead, Rebecca Ferguson as his mother, and Jason Momoa as a warrior. And then there are the themes of embracing our inner leader, overcoming fear, and paying attention to our dreams. There are also so many parallels to the “Star Wars” series, the hero’s journey of a young man who reluctantly learns to find his (literal) voice and strength as a leader. My only regret is that we didn’t see it in the theatre because the visuals – sweeping us across the desert – are truly remarkable. Excited for part two!
Perfect for: When you’re in the mood for a futuristic epic story, and if you want to be dazzled by some stunning visual effects.
Where to watch: You can rent it on Prime, or it’s included in your Max subscription.
Food pairing: I am feeling some Thai food for this one, and get ready for a slow ride.
