“Erin Brokovich”

My Rating: 3.92/4 (aka If you don’t love it there might be something wrong with you)

One line summary: The true story of single mother and legal behemoth Erin Brockovich.

The Deets: I just re-watched this one on a recent flight, and man, it still holds up 25 years later! And I was reminded how adept Steven Soderbergh is at weaving a film story (I can’t even name a film of his I didn’t like). Of course the star of the show is Julia, the darling of Hollywood back then – did we really think she was this good? I mean, part of it is the fantastic script, but Julia really does nail this part, like it was made for her. Aaron Eckhart does his thing, and Albert Finney is the perfect balance. It’s smart, funny, it moves like a thriller, and it pulls all the heart strings – without overdoing it. “Gladiator” won best picture that year and I think they got it wrong.

Perfect for: If you love to watch Julia, if you like Soderbergh’s style, and if you haven’t seen this movie because you just need to have it as part of your watched list.

Where to watch: It’s on Netflix! So you might not need to pay extra for it. Still holds up after all these years.

Food pairing: Mac and cheese.
