My Rating: 3.84/4 (aka Must watch if you love baseball)
One line summary: How Oakland A’s GM Billy Beane flipped baseball on its head.
The Deets: This movie was easy for me to love because I love baseball and remember these Oakland A’s reinventing the game, but I didn’t really know the story behind them. This is that story, wonderfully and wittily dramatized for full effect, and it kinda works in all the ways. I re-watched recently, and I was reminded how great Pitt is – along with Jonah Hill – and he kinda probably should have won the statue; even though we never see him throw or hit, he is so believable as Billy Beane, he erupts off the screen, pulsating with an erratic “can’t lose” energy that you know why he was once a highly touted prospect. And you get a script by Aaron Sorkin and Steven Zaillian? Come on, what more do we need? Six Oscar noms and zero wins no matter – the beauty here is in the tender moments with his daughter, especially when she sings in a pitch perfect scene and time stops.
Perfect for: Anyone who loves baseball (as I do), if you like to see Brad Pitt in his element, and also the whole baseball thing.
Where to watch: You can rent it on your favorite streaming service; you won’t regret it.
Food pairing: Obviously a hot dog, popcorn, peanuts, and anything else you’d eat at a game.
