“Museo”

My Rating: 3.73/4 (aka Totally worth it)

One line summary: The surprising true story of a museum heist in Mexico City.

The Deets: Heist movies of any kind, but especially art heists, typically sit at the top of the list in our house. This 2018 film is both true and takes place in our favorite city. For unknown reasons we didn’t watch it until recently (during our last trip to CDMX!), and I wish we had seen it sooner; while I won’t give away anything, we get a thoughtful build-up of the thieves’ lives, their motivations, and I love how we get a very detailed look at the robbery process – much like in the great “Rififi” we are treated to a silent, deliberate heist scene, ensuring we experience a deep appreciate for the preparation and craft that embodies the steal. We are both in awe of how these amateurish guys pulled off the heist and laughing at how amateurish they are. And as they desired, a movie was made about their exploits, proving the whole point of it all.

Perfect for: If you love Mexico City, heist movies, or you just want a fun watch with Mexican flair.

Where to watch: It’s very rentable on your favorite streaming service.

Food pairing: It might get messy, but you gotta go with some tacos here.
