“Our Kind of Traitor”

My Rating: 3.72/4 (aka Worth your time)

One line summary: An unsuspecting Brit becomes entangled in a plot to help a Russian oligarch.

The Deets: This is a typical movie adapted from one of John le Carre’s novels (“A Most Wanted Man” is another good one): A slow burn narrative that unfolds full of subtlety, with a slightly complex storyline and trademark excellent acting. In this case, the double Oscar goes to Ewan McGregor and – even better – the almost over-the-top Stellan Skarsgard, who you might not even recognize given his heft and his accent. Damian Lewis joins in the fun as well, and the uncertainty of the outcome actually does hang until the last few minutes. You won’t be disappointed.

Perfect for: If you’re in the mood for an entertaining espionage thriller but not a hard core action flick. It’s a good one for a snowy day, like here in Boston.

Where to watch: You gotta rent it on streaming or it’s available on STARZ.

Food pairing: Something British, perhaps a healthy plate of fish and chips (with extra chips of course).
