“Point Break” (the OG from 1991)

My Rating: 3.93/4 (aka An absolute classic that you must see)

One line summary: A rookie FBI agent tries to take down a bank-robbing surfer crew.

The Deets: There are many movies that should never be remade and this is one of them (in fact, the only great remake I can think of is “The Thomas Crown Affair”). So putting the remake aside, please don’t bother, this is such a badass, quotable movie from Kathryn Bigelow, I could watch it over and over (and I have). Early Keanu and Swayze in epic roles, Gary Busey as the veteran partner, and pre-internet, pre-crazy jump cutting action movie set in LA where surfing is a main character. Um yes! Throw in one of the best foot chase scenes ever filmed through the back alleys and homes of LA… pure gold. Hits every note with bravado and will live in my canon of the best 90s movies forever. Also the ending.

Perfect for: If you love Keanu, feel nostalgic for those gritty movies from the 90s, or if you’ve ever wanted to learn how to surf.

Where to watch: You can stream it pretty much anywhere except for Netflix.

Food pairing: Calamari or a meatball sub. Or two.
