My Rating: 3.98/4 (aka A stunningly brilliant movie)
One line summary: Two sisters navigate their relationships with a filmmaker father.
The Deets: This is the best film I have seen in years, since “Anatomy of a Fall” – the last movie to capture the intricacies of familial relationships with such truth; it took my breath away. It is wonderfully original, poetic, lyrical, wise, and the acting is sublime, from everyone. So many layers upon layers here – families and their histories, what we choose to carry with us, how we interact and seek truth, the transformative power of art, and ultimately, truly, do we feel seen (first by ourselves and then those closest to us). Some of the most tender and subtle acting I can recall in many years. So many looks and glances that speak volumes without dialogue. A masterpiece of a movie.
Perfect for: If you are ready for deep, beautiful film about familial relationships.
Where to watch: You can rent it on most streaming services except for Netflix. And you should. Now.
Food pairing: Something Norwegian, but don’t let it distract you from the subtitles.
