My Rating: 3.96/4 (aka Absolutely must see)
One line summary: The epic fictional biography of Hungarian-Jewish immigrant and architect Laszlo Toth.
The Deets: Don’t let the 3.5 hour runtime scare you away; this is a must-see film that I literally cannot stop thinking about. This is a HUGE movie that encompasses so many themes with such power, intensity, wisdom, and beauty – I was shocked to learn that writer/director Brady Corbet is both quite young and this is only his third feature (which he made for less than $10m!!). It represents Adrien Brody’s greatest performance, and it wraps itself around you such that you don’t want it to let go. The allusions you might read to “Citizen Kane” are real; it is that good, not perfect, but so ambitious that its flaws are forgiven in favor of the journey. And the destination.
Perfect for: Anyone who loves cinema, and you need to be ready for a 3.5 hour wallop.
Where to watch: As of now it’s still only in theaters, and the big screen is where it must be seen.
Food pairing: Don’t distract yourself with anything except popcorn – you choose the size.
