“The Debt”

My Rating: 3.93/4 (aka Absolute must see)

One line summary: A secret kept for 30 years begins to unravel.

The Deets: I was surprised to discover that I hadn’t reviewed this film yet because it’s in my upper echelon all time. We recently rewatched it with our daughter – who was seeing it for the first time – and I was reminded why. Loosely based on the Mossad capture of Adolf Eichmann, the story jumps between past and present, daring us to determine what will happen, a physical scar and a deep secret suppressed for three decades. With Jessica Chastain and Helen Mirren in the co-lead role, the acting is obviously superb. Toss in a little Sam Worthington and Tom Wilkinson, and we are off. Don’t hesitate, because you will always need to pay your debts, whatever they are.

Perfect for: When you want an intense and somewhat dark thriller with political undertones.

Where to watch: You can rent it on your streaming platform of choice.

Food pairing: This will probably have you gripped and guessing, so choose a beverage and make a food choice after the credits once you’ve exhaled.
