One line summary: Simon and Robin seem to have an idyllic California life, but the past comes to haunt them.

The Deets: This is a very watchable but ultimately uninspiring film (yes, that’s ok). Jason Bateman and Rebecca Hall as newly relocated California residents are very good in their respective roles (especially Bateman, who shows his mean streak). When they encounter Simon’s high school classmate Gordo (a very unnerving Joel Edgerton, also writer & director), things begin to unravel and evil truths are revealed. I enjoyed this one despite the somewhat lazy ending, punctuated by our moral ambiguity.

Perfect for: If you’re looking for an entertaining thriller that might leave you wanting more.
