My Rating: 3.93/4 (aka Must see)
One line summary: The beautiful, true, and dramatized story of the relationship between an affluent quadriplegic and his new male nurse.
The Deets: I had ignorantly avoided this film because I wrongly assumed it was going to be overly sentimental, despite that I love the two lead actors (you know Francois Cluzet, and Omar Sy of “Lupin” fame, and he is absolutely fantastic in this one). So in the hands of a deft director and writer, this movie is quite magical – like Omar Sy’s accidental (but real) nurse character, the story is told with honesty, humor, and pure love. The unlikely bond that these two men form is quite extraordinary, and if it wasn’t based on a true story then you wouldn’t believe it. Above all the film shows us that when you truly see another human deeply, any external flaw falls away and it becomes pure love.
Perfect for: If you already know and love Cluzet but especially Omar Sy, and if you’re in the mood for a wise, funny, and touching human drama.
Where to watch: As of this writing it’s included with Amazon Prime, which makes it a double must watch!
Food pairing: Stay in the French theme, and maybe simple with baguette and cheese.
