My Rating: 3.83/4 (aka Fun and Worth It)
One line summary: On the brink of losing his longtime job, daydreamer Walter Mitty embarks on an adventure.
The Deets: This one won’t appeal to everyone, but I actually think it’s an underrated film. Yes, I’m kind of a sucker for Ben Stiller (the Jewish comedian thing perhaps). And yes, this movie is filled with cliches. But it’s also very endearing and really funny in key parts (Shirley MacLaine as the mother always works). The soundtrack is on point and perfectly integrated as Walter’s journey progresses. And the epic scene in Iceland at Seyðisfjarðarvegur makes you want to take up skateboarding. It’s a storytelling departure from the original short story by James Thurber, and I think that’s a good thing. Go check to see if Icelandair is having a fare sale.
Perfect for: Any Stiller fans out there, if you used to read LIFE magazine, and if you need a nudge to book that trip.
Where to watch: You gotta rent it, and it’s totally worth it.
Food pairing: A giant bowl of popcorn.
