My Rating: 3.98/4 (aka Absolutely must see)
One line summary: The epic story of Andy Dufrense, who is wrongly convicted of his wife’s murder.
The Deets: I’m not going to make this all about the Oscars, but the fact that this brilliant film was nominated for seven and didn’t win any is an absolute joke. Ok fine, maybe I give you Tom Hanks and “Forrest Gump,” but Tim Robbins not being nominated is a travesty. This is the movie that has stood the test of time; a story of friendship and hope, wrapped in a prison saga with a notoriously bad title… I bet most people don’t even know the director Frank Darabont. But this is one of the all-time great American movies. Morgan Freeman is perfect, including his indelible voiceover. And it has one of the very best final shots in all of cinema. If you’ve never seen it, stream it tonight; and if you have and you’ve maybe forgotten its power, watch it again.
Perfect for: Anyone with a pulse; if you haven’t seen this phenomenal movie then you must. No more questions.
Where to watch: You can stream it pretty much anywhere except for Netflix.
Food pairing: Burger, fries, milkshake, and a side of Zihuatanejo.
