“Toni Erdmann”

My Rating: 3.93/4 (aka Must see)

One line summary: A jokester father visits his grown-up, workaholic daughter.

The Deets: Eight years before her brilliant turn in the excellent “Anatony of a Fall,” Sandra Huller played the serious Ines is this unexpected film that I need to rewatch to recall its brilliance more clearly. In a world where we often takes ourselves too seriously, this movie – and the enigmatic father at its center – is the perfect antidote. I don’t want to give away any details because the story is filled with many delightful surprises, just go in with a clean slate of the mind and I promise you too will be delighted by what you experience.

Perfect for: When you’re in the mood for a quirky and beautiful film about the power of humor and the depth of relationships.

Where to watch: You can rent it on your favorite streaming platform, especially Amazon Prime.

Food pairing: A hot dog with a giant bowl of potato chips on the side.
